If you are a normal person in the United States you have either failed or are currently failing on a diet.
Most Americans sometime in their lives have gotten fat. If this is you, than you are pretty normal. Look around, you are not alone.
And most of us have tried and failed at some kind of diet. It has happened to most. Even folks who are at their healthy weight have failed in the past with weight loss.
What makes the difference is what you do with your failure.
When you try to start a new habit, there is a good chance that you will fail. What if you viewed that failure differently?
When it comes to failing at a diet, it is easy to become very emotional and discouraged. But I want you to look at failure differently. Consider yourself a scientist. Look at your failures as a test of science, and that you are learning what works and what does not work.
Lets say there is a scientist at a very important laboratory. It is his job to find a cure for a major problem that is facing the public. Should he give up when his first experiment fails? How about after the 10th time...100th time….1000th time?
What if that scientist would take it personally and say… nothing ever works out for me, I quite! A professional scientist who run tests that fail do not give up just because their efforts did not pay off.
Think about Thomas Edison, when he was asked about trying 10,000 different ideas to create the light bulb.
Consider these quotes:
Everyone has failed one way or another with weight loss. But most never get past the feelings of defeat which can lead to self pity and depression.
To win at a very emotional goal such as weight loss try something different. Examine your failure like you are a well paid scientist doing an experiment. OK, So you found something that does not work.
Now get up and try again.
