You Already Possess the "Superhuman Power" Needed for your Weight Loss Goal: and YOU Were Born With It

When I was eating a lot of junk food and ruining my health it was a choice I made.  No one was holding me down and forcing me to eat a large maple bar, Cheetos, and a couple of 7-Eleven big gulps for a mid-morning snack.  Just like today, no one is forcing me to eat a banana when I want a mid-morning snack.

Back in my junk food days, no one was forcing me to drink a crazy amount of diet Pepsi or Coke.  And today, no one is forcing me to drink 80-100 ounces of water per day.

The power of choices

We all want to say we make our own decisions and choices until we realize that in order to change our health, we need to choose to eat something different.  Then we tell ourselves.."I have to eat this extra large maple will help keep me away while I drive."

When it comes to making changes in our lives, we often use one reason: “I had no other choice.”

But if we are being honest, is this true?

One of the ways we are made in the image of God is through the power of choice. Animals use instinct to survive. Migrating birds do amazing feats by traveling hundreds and sometimes thousands of miles from one location to another.

But do these creatures have a choice? Not really. Something inside of them tells them when and where to go. This is one of the many wonders that God has created for His glory.

But for us humans, God gave us the power of choice.

  • If you don’t like the school you are going to, you have the choice to change schools.
  • If you don't like the neighborhood you live in, you have the power of choice to move.
  • If you don’t like the friends you hang out with now, you can choose to change your friends.
  • If you don’t like the job you currently have, you have the power of choice to change jobs.
  • If you don’t like the health you are experiencing currently, you have the power of choice to change your health.

The power of choice makes you feel free

Meditate for a minute on the power of choice. Picture in your mind that you are choosing to be healthy and strong. When I do this mental exercise, it makes me feel good and makes me think that a consistent healthy weight is possible.

But just because we have the power of choice does not mean that the choice we want will be easy.

  • If you want to change schools, it may cost you more money.
  • If you want to move to another neighborhood, it will require work to pack, load, and move all your stuff to another neighborhood.
  • If you try to make new friends, it could take a lot of effort to seek out new friendships.
  • If you want a new job, it will take a lot of effort to search out and then apply for new employment opportunities.
  • If you want to lose 40 pounds and get your health back, it will take a lot of effort to learn new healthy exercises and implement a new eating plan.

Making a choice for change will lead to effort

Maybe that is why when it comes to our health we use the excuse, “I have no choice.”  

We know choice really means we must apply effort to make a change.

It is much easier to say:

  • My husband/wife likes to eat junk food and snack all the time and won’t eat healthy.
  • My job is so stressful I need my junk food to keep me awake and going.
  • Healthy fruits and vegetables are so expensive I cannot afford eating them.
  • My kids will not change and I must feed them only what they will eat.
  • I cannot afford a gym membership.
  • I don’t have time to exercise hours every day.
  • If I was married to someone healthy, I would exercise every day.
  • If I wasn't married and single, I would have time to exercise every day

What a great feeling of hope to know that God made you with the power to choose something better! It is powerful and freeing to know we can make a choice. Use that powerful option today and choose to start just one new habit of good health.

What you eat today is your choice.  Making time to exercise is your choice. We may not be able to change many things that happen around us, but we can choose how we respond to our circumstances.

Every choice we make will end with a result. Make your choice count for your own good health.  

The question is, how do you want to live your life: making choices for good health or choosing to make excuses?

The Number ONE Secret Tip to Weight Loss and Healthy Eating

Secrets. We all love them. We want to know something that others don’t know. We want inside information and top secret shortcuts.

Why do we always like to think that there is a secret formula when it comes to success?

When someone wants to sell you a plan to get rich, they will say they have a secret formula to share with you. When someone wants to sell you a plan to lose weight, they will say they have a secret formula that will work.

If you do a Google search about secret weight loss, you will find over 38 million results.

Here are some of the titles of the top searches:

Why is it that we are enticed with the idea of a secret? Why do you think that when we have something hard to do, which few folks can accomplish, that there must be a secret?  We would rather think something that is hard to accomplish must be secretive and not obvious and basic.

  • Someone becomes rich? He must know a secret.
  • Someone loses 40 pounds? She must know a secret

I was asked several times when I lost my 40 pounds, “So Brad, what is your secret?” I always wished I had something clever to answer, but I never came up with anything.

The good news is that there is no secret that you need to buy in order to lose weight and eat healthy.

You have what it takes

Stop thinking that there must be something you do not know, something you must buy, or some kind of secret that only a few chosen people know.

What it takes to get healthy and stay healthy is no secret; it is the same for everyone. Seek out a healthy food plan, start exercising, and develop the mental toughness to stick to it daily. That is it.  

There is nothing mysterious about weight loss and eating healthy. Don’t waste your time looking for the latest fad diet, secret fat burning pill, secret fat burning supplement, or any kind of secret food that burns fat while you sleep.

A lot of doctors and nutritionists have done all the hard work and research about healthy food.  The information about nutrition and exercise has never been easier to understand. Simple searches on the internet or reading books put all the nutrition information you need right at your fingertips. 

Think about it

You probably know everything there is to know already about how to eat healthy and exercise.  Let's say I hired you and I was going to pay you $100.00 to write a menu for me which would be healthy and nutritious for the next week.  Could you do it?  

And would you be able to recommend for me to walk or exercise every day of the week for at least 30 minutes?

You already know all the secrets you need to know.  Now go and do it.  Just do it!

The one secret you need

Develop your "purpose" and “why,”  to create the mental toughness you need to stick to your commitment.  You can do this!

The secret is out. Those who apply what they know and stay compliant will get healthy. Those who keep looking for some other secret way...will stay fat.

I think in some ways quoting from the famous story, The Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, describes the  health challenges of today. 

Because there is so much junk food, fast food, and easy access to cheap food, it is easier today to become fat and unhealthy. There has never been a time in history when child obesity was as bad as it is now. I heard a tailor who makes custom school clothes for Jewish school kids in New York City say on the news that he is making clothes bigger and bigger each year for the same age school kids.

For the first time, it is possible that the generation to come will be less healthy and die sooner than their parents. 

Have you noticed all the new drug stores being built everywhere? And they all have drive-up windows! Sometimes there are two or three major drug stores built right across from each other. 

The drug companies have studied the market, and they know what the demand will be in the future. They see what is coming and they are getting ready for all the prescriptions business.

And so now we can get our food and prescriptions from a drive-up window.  

Yes, in the United States it is very easy to overeat fast/junk food every day. It is accessible everywhere, on almost every street corner and in every grocery and convenience store.

But then on the other side…

There has NEVER been a time in all of WORLD HISTORY that it is so EASY to eat healthy and have such an abundance of healthy nutritional food!

  • Do you want fresh or frozen strawberries every day of the year? 100% available.
  • Do you want fresh cleaned lettuce that is ready to eat? 100% available.
  • Do you want almost any kind of fresh or frozen fruit to make a smoothie? 100% available.
  • Do you want fresh or frozen chicken breast meat that is ready to cook and eat? 100% available.
  • Do you want fresh or frozen beef, turkey, or fish that is ready to cook and eat? 100% available.
  • Do you want fresh, cleaned, and ready to eat green spinach (that’s great for smoothies)? 100% available.
  • Do you want almost any kind of fresh or frozen vegetable to cook and eat? 100% available.
  • Do you want to eat fruits and vegetables that are organic? 100% available.
  • Do you want fresh healthy bread with no preservatives? 100% available.
  • Do you want fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables that are not organic? 100% available.
  • Do you want organic fresh grains, (wheat or oats) to cook with? 100% available.
  • Do you want fresh or frozen corn, peas, or green beans to cook with? 100% available.
  • Do you want grass fed beef or pork? 100% available.
  • Do you want fresh eggs to cook with? 100% available.
  • Do you want range-fed chicken meat or eggs? 100% available.
  • Do you want chicken eggs or meat from chickens in a cage? 100% available.
  • Do you want fresh apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, raisins, and plums any day of the year?  100% available.
  • Do you want an assortment of nuts and avocados with your meal? 100% available.

In the United States, there has never been a better time in world history for mankind to eat healthy and be at a healthy natural weight.   Just think how much easier it is now day to eat healthy!  You can buy chicken breast already skinned, salad and vegetables already cleaned.  Fresh bread already baked.   Don't tell yourself that it is so hard to eat healthy!  Tell yourself how blessed you are to live in a day when you can eat so healthy without a lot of hard work.

But the problem is not the opportunity to eat healthy. The problem is what you think about all these foods I have listed.

Do you think you are a victim of evil capitalists who are trying to get you addicted to all the junk food or fast food that is available?

(Everyone knows all of our health problems are the fault of McDonald’s and Burger King!)

Or do you think that you are the most blessed person in the history of mankind and you are going to take advantage of the many choices we have to eat healthy?

Change your thinking and you will change your health and experience weight loss.
